How do I apply for the scholarship?

Create a 1-2 minute pitch video responding to two or more of the following questions:

  • What inspires you to know more about the ocean and its inhabitants?

  • How would this experience help you reach and/or develop your goals?

  • Why do you think conservation is important? Why should kids care?

  • What new opportunities will this experience provide?

  • Why should you be chosen for A Rising Tide Scholarship?

You will need to upload your video to YouTube and then complete our short online application. You are welcome to keep your video private by making it unlisted. Please see below for more information.

What are the requirements?

You must be in 8th-11th grade, live within driving distance of Boulder, Colorado, and have never been certified to scuba dive.

For a student to be eligible for the Open Water Scuba Diver course, a parent or legal guardian must complete a Medical Statement. If there is a ‘Yes’ to any question on the medical form, students will need their physician to fill out the appropriate section of the Medical Statement. If all answers are ‘No,’ you’re good to go!

What does a scholarship include?

The A Rising Tide scholarship includes:

  • Three marine science short courses

  • Open Water Scuba Diver certification

  • Mask, snorkel, fins and all scuba gear

  • Two all-inclusive open water dive trips

  • Experience of a lifetime

What is expected of scholars?

Scholars’ experiences will be filmed and shared throughout the semester in weekly webisodes.

Scholars will be responsible for:

  • Vlogging 2-3 times a week

  • 2-3 community events and/or fieldtrips during the semester

Due to the nature of the scholarship, applicants must reside in the Denver/Boulder metro area or be willing to commute to Boulder, CO. The scuba classes will be held at Ocean First at 3015 Bluff St., Boulder, CO.  A Rising Tide will assist with transportation to and from Ocean First if needed.

Students and their parent or legal guardian must sign the scholarship agreement and adhere to the scholarship guidelines set forth by A Rising Tide, LLC.

What are the requirements to upload a video to YouTube?

YouTube requires that any video uploaded adhere to the following specifications:

  • File size less than 128 GB

  • Video length under 15 minutes

  • Be any of the following formats:

    • MOV, MPEG4, MP4, AVI, WMV, MPEGPS, FLV, 3GPP, WebM

What can I do to keep my video private?

When uploading your video make sure that your video is Unlisted.
